The business

Since 1999, Bay Island Voyages has been running high-speed boat rides within Cardiff Bay and out into the Bristol Channel. Offering a range of days out for thrill-seeking groups and individuals, the company offers sightseeing tours with a difference. Ranging from a short ‘Bay Blast’ around Cardiff Bay, to longer scenic coastal trips, to tours of Flatholm Island, the firm’s high-spec RIB boats offer customers the ultimate tourism experience.

The brief

The leadership team behind Bay Island Voyages needed a full-service HR and accountancy firm, following its initial purchase of the company from previous owners. The nature of the business, and the type of service it provides, meant that it needed a provider that could help navigate complex financial regulations and processes from the outset.

Our approach

We were initially involved in the due diligence and advisory elements of the new ownership deal. This involved detailed planning around the various financing options available to support the acquisition, followed by ongoing support with day-to-day accounting requirements. As part of this work, we helped Bay Island Voyages get to grips with a range of sector-specific, complex VAT regulations with which they needed to comply. From a HR perspective, the nature of the business means that it operates using a blend of independent consultants and employees, so we made sure the team was covered with appropriate consultancy agreements and contracts of employment.
